This tray was an inspiration from Marie “The Interior Frugalista”. It was a lot of fun to do but also a challenge.
It originally was a picture frame. Removing the back allowed me to have the frame fully exposed so I could paint it. I first used Country Chic, Sage Green 2 coats. Next came the dry brushing which was applied in layers. These colours were Rustoleum Linen White, AS, Louie Blue and Cocoa then General Finishes Yellow. These were applied as needed.
Taking the backing of the frame that had been removed, I applied some glue but not before measuring out some construction paper which I had to fit. Placing it on the glue and waiting a bit to make sure it adhered and was not movable I place the stencil on top of the construction paper and used Rustoleum Linen White to apply the stencil. I really did not have to seal this but having a Rustoleum Spray Polyurethane I sprayed on one coat. When all was dry the glass went on.
I thought all was finished and placed the tray on my coffee table and placed a plant on top. A few days later I noticed that the glass had cracked from top to bottom in one area. The Mayor decided to take it and have another one made. It looks fabulous but rather heavy. He chose a heavier glass so it would be more durable. I thought that was so good of him to do this. The Mayor is quite considerate and helpful.
