THIS SIGN WAS SO MUCH FUN. ALREADY MAKING ANOTHER ONE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IT’S A CHALLENGE TO TRY AND NOT REPEAT YOURSELF.
I was practicing a new look for wooden signs. Never before have I tried to make new wood look old. This piece looked completely different before I started. It was originally made for the kitchen so I went for a different look. If I would have known it was going to be hung outside it would have been more rustic.
I painted this sign with 4 colours. Grey, brown, black and brown which were watered down when applied so they would easily soak into the wood. Playing with each colour as I went along blending until I achieved what I liked. There was no exact science to this, I just eye balled it Once the paint had dried then I applied the stencil (from Funky Junk) in red to bring some colour into the mix. To give it more durability I then applied Minwax polyurethane fast drying and 3x in one application.
The Mayor put in the do-dads and hug up the sign.
Love them all.

Thank you I love doing them. They are fun to plan on how you want them to look.
