On Sticks

on-sticksThis bird was my first attempt on making a larger water colour.  It was a challenge since I never knew that I could sketch let alone paint something like this.  I used watercolours and gel pens which I had never used before.  It was painted purely as an encouragement piece and to prove to myself I could do it.

If anyone is thinking in working with watercolours don’t be afraid, it is a lot of fun.  Though I suggest you buy a good set of watercolours.  I used Winsor Newton – Cotman Water Colours.   I first purchased a small travel container with 12 colours.   Then I found that I needed some extra colours so I purchased the same paints in very small tubes that will last for a very long time.  I have discovered that you need very, very little paint to do this.  In using a better paint you will get better coverage and nicer looking colours.  So when you piece is done you will be more pleased with the way your painting has turned out.  It is worth the money and not that much more in price for a good quality product.
