Coasters, Pot Holders, Whatever You Like

IMG_6674

I found such a neat idea on a blog called The Boondocks, http://www.theboondocksblog.com/. Mary made some coasters out of mouse pads as a gift for her husband for Fathers Day. She had cut maps of places where he had been to fit the top of the mouse pad, glued them on with Mod Podge then covered the top with the Mod Podge.

Well I decided to try this out but instead of using mouse pads I used cork pot holders that I found at a garage sale. Did it ever work out well. I glued the maps on with Mod Podge, coated the top with 3 coats of the Mod Podge let it dry in between coats and done. We love them I even use them for coasters. I plan to make some more in the near future.

You can take this project a few steps further.  This is also a great project to do on a table. Get the kids involved. Get maps or brochures of places that you have all been together, glue them onto a table, desk, chair, night table, lampshade, in a picture frame or even on a wall, etc. Even pictures would work.  What a great reminder of great times and such good memories.

Thanks Mary. Great idea.

Mary these are FABULOUS! No they weren’t a gift for my husband. But as soon as my daughter in law saw them she snatched them up and took them home. Now I will make some more as soon as I can find some maps. I’m wondering if the automobile club still has them. I just loved the way they turned out. This next batch I will give to my husband.
Now my daughter in law is going to gather maps of where they have been with their trailer and she is going to let the kids do this on their table in the trailer. What fun and what great memories. Mary, see what your idea sparked on the other side of the world. Thank you for sharing

    Hi Mary
No they were not for my husband but as soon as my daughter in law saw them she snatched them up and took them home. She absolutely loved them. I’m going to make some more if I can find some more maps. I wonder if the Automobile Club still has them? This time I will give them to my husband.
Now, my daughter in law is going to collect maps of places they have been with their trailer and she is going to get the three little ones to do this very thing on the table in the trailer. What great memories and what great fun. See what your idea has sparked half way around the world. Amazing! Thank you Mary.

They turned out wonderfully, Baba–I can certainly see why family members are fighting over them 🙂 Thanks for linking them up at Vintage Charm–
