Du Village – Another Chic Tray

I love trays so you’ll have to bear with me because I’ve been doing a number of these.  They look great with things on them and are so multi functional.  Whether they be decorative or actually serve a purpose they are great to have around.

This tray I picked up at our local thrift store.  Oddly enough I didn’t realize what size it was.   20″x 141/2″. I was just so glad to find it that into the cart it went before anyone else could grab it.  I find that with the trays I can try out new painting techniques and when I’m done I have something I can sell or use.

This tray received an extra special treatment.  I tried out a new product called Saltwash.  It is fabulous. It makes the piece you paint textured and it gives the feel of a coastal retreat.  I also did a mirror with this same method which I will share later.

I slightly sanded the tray, cleaned it with of all things a diaper wipe.  I then proceeded to paint it with ASCP Aubusson Blue and Louie Blue that I had both mixed with the powdered Saltwash.  The exact measurements I’m not sure of.  I just put some of the Aubusson Blue into a container added the Saltwash and stirred until I had a cake batter like consistency.  Heaven help me because now I am starting to paint like I cook.  Very seldom do I ever measure, I go by sight and feel.  Once that all dried I applied a coat of GF Antique White.  Once it dried I proceeded to sand it then all the magic happened.  I just loved the finished look.  It will be definitely something I will use again.

Thank you for the lovely compliment. I just start with some sort of vision that I imagine but you know it never ends up looking like the original thought. As i do a piece I always am thinking about how and what else I can do to it. Good luck on your ventures and if i can help just ask. My new thing is painting farmhouse signs have a look at the video i posted on my blog. I am currently working on another one to post.
