Steak And Cheese Filled Buns

This recipe idea came from my son.  He is such a good cook and always full of different ideas for different meals.  He made chicken one night for supper and said he was going to tear it apart and put it on buns with melted cheese.  Oh it sounded so good.  So after thinking about it, I decided to do a similar dish with steak but tweaking it a bit.  Fast and easy to do.  I just love cooking these kinds of meals.

IMG_5965Slice 1 onion and 2-4 cups of mushrooms.

IMG_5957Slice 1-2 lbs of steak, against the grain.

IMG_5966Marinade with the juice of 1 lime and 1/2 lemon for approx. 2 hours.

IMG_5962Cut the steak into strips at a length you like.

IMG_5964Cut the little pieces against the grain and at an angle.

IMG_5971Place a couple of glugs of olive oil into a fry pan and when heated add the onion and grated garlic.  Fry for a couple of minutes…

IMG_5972Add the sliced steak. Then add the mushrooms, garlic and Worcestershire sauce.   Cook for about 5 minutes, I cook mine longer because I like my steak well done.

IMG_5970Slice the buns in half and place on a baking sheet.

IMG_5976Top with cheese and broil until cheese has melted.  Normally I would first place the cheese on the bun, then the meat and cheese again. This time I just forgot.

IMG_5978Serve with a salad and some extra buns, cheese and meat mixture.  Trust me,  everyone will want seconds.  Yum!

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

1-2 Lbs. Skirt Steak

1-2 Limes

1/2 Lemon

2 Cups Sliced Mushrooms

1 Sliced Onion

1 Clove Minced Garlic

Salt And Pepper To Taste

Worchestshire Sauce, To Taste

Favourite Cheese, To Taste

Favourite Buns

PREPARATION

Fry onions, garlic then add the sliced steak.  Fry until meat is to your liking and during this stage add the mushrooms.  Also adding Worcestershire sauce, about 1-2 tablespoons or to taste.

Cut buns in half, top with steak mixture and cheese.  Place under broiler until cheese has melted and your done.
