“Crystal” From Crystal Beach

IMG_5888This is one project I give full credit to my husband, The Mayor.  He has a habit of saving things and then tries to figure out what to do with them.  He just can’t throw anything out.  This one though, I have to admit is a very good idea.

This tool box is one of his newly acquired items, with which at first he didn’t know what to do with.  With some contemplation and just out of nowhere he asked me if I would paint this toolbox he had.  Thinking he said to be used possibly as a planter.  When I looked at it I thought it was a great idea.  It was rustic and would create such perfect center piece whether it be indoors or outdoors.  I just didn’t know if I could do it justice.  So with some thought on my part, I knew it was not to be painted perfectly.  It had to look a bit worn.  I set out to see what I could do and his is what I finally ended up with.  Though as with the rest of my projects, is not what it had started out to be.

I first painted it with 2 coats of AS Chateau Grey.  Followed by a wash of Miss Mustard Seed  Grainsack.  Then a coat of Easy Crackle was applied and topped off, haphazardly with GF Chalk Paint Buttermilk.  This gave it an aged look but not as you would notice right away.  The inside was painted with the AS Chateau Grey, giving it a nice balanced look and not over done.  The last step was to seal all of this with a polyurethane so it would be protected if used outside.

Now I must sound like I know what I am doing but I also did have helpful advise from my mentor, Maxine, from Studio Paint.  Thanks Maxine.
