“Pritchard”, A Long Awaited Makeover

IMG_5778This end table came from Burlington Ontario.  A city just outside of Hamilton which is about 45 minutes from Toronto Ontario.  A man named Pritchard was selling many things.  Yet another person downsizing and unable to take the things that had built so many memories.  I always try to remember that when redoing a piece of furniture.  Like every other thing in life, respect.

This table originally was shellacked.  Being a table made from mahogany, I didn’t want it to bleed through the paint that I was going to apply.  I painted it in ASCP Old Ochre with 2 coats and I then applied AS clear and dark wax.  I have used this table since.  I just recently decided that I would like to do it in a different colour and stain the top to give it a different look.  It turned out beautifully.  Looks gorgeous no matter where I put it.

I started with applying a wash of AS Provence over the wax.  I wanted to apply the wash so you could still have the original Old Ochre colour peeking through to give it another layer of dimension. During this process I also decided to top that with a glaze, General Finishes Van Dyke Brown, just to give it bit of a rustic and warmer feel.  Then the table was ever so slightly distressed, sanded and GF High Performance was applied to the tables lower half.  The top was sanded to reveal an inlay which was enhanced when GF Antique Walnut Stain was applied, 3 coats and then topped with GF Gel Topcoat, 3 coats.

I just love the colour of this table.  It adds a pop of colour no matter where I put it.
