I love painting mirrors. This one came from an estate sale in St. Catharines. A very plain gold mirror. I was so happy when it came into view and going over to pick it up I was really surprised. I could hardly lift it, it is really heavy. Made by Kroehler Furniture Company and so marked, it is as solid as tree trunk.
I knew almost right away how I was going to paint it. It was not a glittery mirror and I felt it was somewhat understated for it’s size and construction. Badly needing an update I wanted to give it a driftwood feel that would fit into any decor.
First painting it in ASCP cocoa in a solid layer then giving it another coat by dry brushing it in the same colour. Next came a layer of dry brushing in ASCP Old Ochre and the final layer was Old White. When the paint was dry I sealed it in AS clear wax. The thing to remember with this look is you keep layering until you get the look you want. It is fun!
