From a house in Burlington, at an estate sale on Henshaw Rd., this mirror was a case of wanting to get back to painting, yet not having the time and not wanting to have a mess in the house. This project was a way to satisfy both those issues. I love painting furniture which really surprises me because I don’t have any artistic ability and find it frustrating not to be able to do so. But there are so many ways to achieve this desire and for me I think I have found an outlet.
This mirror started out being something completely different and it ended up as you see it. Not to my surprise though, because most of my painting projects are exactly the same. Many times I change colours and methods half way through the piece. Doing the same here, I am pleased with the way it turned out.
I first painted it with Annie Sloan French Linen, thinking I would distress it and have this colour coming through. After the paint dried , I next applied a coat of Easy Crackle. Now thinking, I was going to give it an aged looked. I made a mixture of Paris Grey and Aubusson Blue AS paints, just to give the colour a hint of blue. Applying this on top of the easy crackle worked well and did the trick but something seemed to be missing. So next came a coat of Florence. I also decided to apply 2 washes, first Provence and finally Duck Egg Blue. When applying these washes it very gently was distressed in places. Of course now it started look completely different but I liked it. After the paint dried I applied AS clear wax but also mixing AS clear wax with AS dark wax as a final coating. Looked good but to jazz it up, I applied gold wax here and there. I liked it. The gold wax just seemed to dress it up. Far cry from my initial idea. Though it was fun seeing it evolve from one thing into something completely different
So Pretty Baba!!
Glad to see you dipping into the paint again!!
