This is a dish that I’ve known forever. A dish that I grew up with. It is a dish that my son grew up with and a dish that I also have passed along to my grandchildren. It is another Slovak recipe that my grandmothers and my mother made.
This is a dish that is made in every household in Slovakia. It normally is eaten alone and with a glass of milk. It almost is a tradition, so to speak. Any Slovak person knows this dish and has either made it or eaten it. It is not difficult to make and only requires 4 ingredients. Potatoes, egg, flour and salt. How much more basic can you get? If you have never had the chance to travel to Slovakia and would like a taste of the cuisine, try this. There are a few dishes that are reminiscent of this country and this surely is one of them. I hope you enjoy it.
Chop them into cubes and grate them in a food processor. This is actually the first time I have done it this way. I normally use a box grater and use the side that liquifies the potatoes. This way just requires another step.
This is how the processor grates the potatoes.
And this is what you want. So I just attached another blade and made it mushy.
Next add 1 egg and 2 tablespoons of flour, a pinch of salt.
Heat a few glugs of oil in a fry pan at a medium heat. Add 2 large tablespoons of batter for every pancake, unless you want them smaller. Which is a good idea if you serve them with meat or fish.
Line a pan with paper towels and drain off some of the oil. Transfer them into another dish and keep warm in the oven while preparing the rest.
They are eaten with some sour cream or I love them with some jam. MMMM! Good.
